Sunset cliffs is a short walk from our guest houses (go left leaving the house on Orchard Ave. and take a left on Sunset Cliffs Blvd) and is a popular spot for watching the sunset. If you head right on Sunset Cliffs Blvd, you will reach Newport Ave in approximately ½ mile. This is the main drag of Ocean Beach, and you will find all sorts of shops and the beach. If you walk north along the beach towards the San Diego River, you will reach dog beach, a fun place for dogs to run freely. A block up from Newport Ave. is Santa Monica Ave. where you will find the Ocean Beach Library and Post Office. San Diego MTS runs a couple of bus routes in Ocean Beach that can take you other places on Point Loma. You can also make connections to other routes. Old Town is a hub. On weekends, take the 35 bus from Newport and Cable into Old Town to catch the Green Line into town. Get off at Santa Fe Depot and walk to the Santa Fe station to pick up a bus to Balboa Park which has great walking trails, gardens, museums, and even the San Diego Zoo.

Going out at night, Uber and Lyft are both affordable and accessible. Many unique restaurants and bars are located on the main street Newport Ave. The Gaslamp District in downtown is full of places to eat and drink. Petco Park (San Diego Padres) is near there. You can also stroll along the waterfront and see the sights or even take a quick cruise to Coronado Island.



Farmers market



There is a Farmers market on Newport every Wednesday. Other Farmers Markets are held different places and times. The Little Italy Mercado on Cedar street in downtown’s Little Italy area runs every Saturday. The Farmers Market on Normal Street in the Hillcrest area runs on Sundays.



Grocery



Lager grocery and other stores are in and near Liberty Station. Local grocery stores are Ralph’s, Vons. There is a nice small store, the Olive Tree Market on Sunset Cliffs Blvd near Newport and a larger local store, the Apple Tree Market, about halfway down Newport on the right. Target, Rite Aid and CVS have locations in Ocean Beach.



bicycle rides



Bike riding? It’s very popular here. You can follow bike trails along the river or even to the other side of the river where you can easily reach Sea World, Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. There is a great boardwalk that runs along the Pacific Ocean and a path and park on the inland side.
